Atlas Copco is a Swedish industrial group that makes compressors, vacuum equipment, industrial tools and assembly systems, and related services. It was founded in Stockholm in 1873 as AB Atlas, originally producing railway equipment, and moved into compressed air and pneumatic tools in the early twentieth century.
The compressor business supplies air and gas compressors, dryers and filtration used across manufacturing, food production, pharmaceuticals and general industry, with a large share of revenue coming from aftermarket service and parts rather than initial equipment sales. The vacuum business serves semiconductor fabrication, flat panel displays and scientific research, where vacuum conditions are required for the process itself.
Industrial technique covers tightening tools, assembly systems and machine vision used on production lines, particularly in automotive and electronics manufacturing where joint quality has to be measured and recorded. A power technique division supplies portable compressors, generators, pumps and light towers for construction and infrastructure work.
The company demerged its mining and rock excavation business as Epiroc in 2018, leaving Atlas Copco focused on the four areas above. It operates in more than seventy countries with manufacturing and engineering sites across Europe, Asia and North America.
Engineering, manufacturing, service, supply chain and commercial roles are spread across those locations, including a substantial presence in India.
