DBS is a Singaporean multinational bank and the largest bank in Southeast Asia by assets. It was established in 1968 as the Development Bank of Singapore to finance the country's industrialisation, taking over the development financing role from the Economic Development Board, and later broadened into a full commercial and consumer bank.
The group operates consumer banking and wealth management, institutional banking and treasury markets. Its main markets are Singapore, Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, India and Indonesia, and it acquired POSB in 1998, which gave it a very large retail deposit base in Singapore, along with Lakshmi Vilas Bank in India in 2020 and Citigroup's Taiwan consumer business in 2023.
