Ferrero is an Italian confectionery company and one of the largest chocolate and sweet packaged food producers in the world. It was founded in 1946 in Alba, in the Piedmont region of Italy, by Pietro Ferrero, who developed a hazelnut and cocoa paste as an affordable alternative at a time when cocoa was scarce and expensive after the Second World War. That product line led to Nutella, launched in 1964.
The group's brands include Nutella, Kinder, Ferrero Rocher, Tic Tac and Raffaello, and it has expanded well beyond its original range through acquisitions. These include Thorntons in the United Kingdom, Fannie May and the Nestle confectionery business in the United States, Ferrara Candy, and biscuit and ice cream operations, giving it a presence in categories such as cookies, wafers and frozen desserts.
The company remains family controlled and does not trade publicly. It operates dozens of manufacturing plants worldwide and sources large volumes of hazelnuts, cocoa, sugar, milk and palm oil, with dedicated agricultural operations in hazelnut growing regions.
Roles cover food science and product development, manufacturing and engineering, quality, supply chain, agriculture, marketing, sales and corporate functions across Europe, the Americas, Asia and Africa.
