Lucid Motors is an American electric vehicle manufacturer headquartered in Newark, California. The company designs and builds luxury electric cars along with the powertrain, battery systems and software that run them, and it manufactures at its own plant in Casa Grande, Arizona.
Lucid began as a battery and powertrain company before moving into complete vehicles, and that history shapes the engineering focus of the business. The company develops its motors, inverters, transmission and battery packs in house, and has consistently positioned range and powertrain efficiency as the measures it competes on. Its first production car was the Lucid Air saloon, followed by the Lucid Gravity SUV. The company is listed on the Nasdaq under the ticker LCID, and Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund is its majority shareholder.
Engineering, design, software and manufacturing roles are concentrated around the California headquarters and the Arizona factory, with additional operations covering retail studios, service centres and international markets. The company also supplies powertrain technology to other manufacturers, so a portion of its work sits in business-to-business supply rather than consumer vehicles.
