Verkada builds cloud-managed physical security systems for buildings. Its product line covers security cameras, door-based access control, environmental sensors, alarms, intercoms, visitor management and guest access, all administered through a single browser-based console.
The company's approach is to replace the traditional on-premises security stack, where cameras feed a local video recorder that an operator must be physically present to use, with hardware that connects to a cloud platform. Footage and access events are searchable from anywhere, software updates are delivered centrally, and a security team overseeing many sites can work from one interface rather than one system per building. Cameras carry onboard storage and processing so that recording continues if the network connection drops.
Verkada is headquartered in San Mateo, California. Its customers include schools and universities, healthcare providers, retailers, manufacturers, logistics operators and corporate campuses. Because the products touch video and building access, the company publishes detail on its security architecture, encryption and privacy controls, which is a recurring procurement requirement in this category.
