Alleima produces advanced stainless steels, special alloys, titanium and industrial heating products. It became an independent listed company in 2022 when Sandvik separated its materials technology division and distributed it to shareholders, though the underlying operation traces back to the Sandvik steelworks founded at Sandviken in 1862.
The company does not compete on commodity steel. It makes materials specified for conditions that ordinary alloys cannot survive, such as seamless tubes for high pressure boilers and heat exchangers, umbilical tubing that runs along the seabed to offshore installations, corrosion resistant alloys for chemical processing, and precision strip and wire used in medical devices, springs and razor blades.
