A Free Applicant Tracking System

A genuinely free ATS: pipeline stages, bulk actions, ratings, notes and an audit trail, plus free job posting. No seat licence, no expiring trial.

Free, and not the kind of free that expires

Most recruitment software is free for fourteen days, or free until your third job, or free for one user. RefOpen's pipeline is free because the hiring side of the product is free.

There is no seat licence, no per-posting fee, no per-applicant charge and no annual contract. You are not going to build a hiring process on it and then be asked to pay to keep your own candidate history.

If you are a small team tracking applicants in a spreadsheet, a founder losing candidates in an inbox, or an agency running a desk out of a WhatsApp group, this is the thing that replaces all of it.

What the pipeline actually does

Every applicant to a role lands in that role's own pipeline. On a desktop it is a column per stage; on a phone it is a filtered list, because a Kanban board squeezed onto a small screen is just a worse list.

You move candidates between stages one at a time or in bulk, which matters on the day you need to reject forty people without doing it forty times. You rate candidates, and you leave notes that stay attached to the person rather than getting lost in a thread.

Every move is recorded with who made it and when. When a hiring panel shares a shortlist, that history settles what was already decided instead of relitigating it.

Each candidate arrives with their profile, skills and resume attached, so screening does not start with chasing a document.

The dashboard tells you what is going wrong

Most hiring dashboards show totals: roles posted, applications received, all time. Those numbers go up whether or not your hiring is working, so they tell you nothing.

RefOpen leads with the work that is waiting instead. Candidates nobody has opened yet. Applicants with no activity for over a week. Roles about to close. Postings that have been live a week and attracted nothing.

Every one of those is a decision you need to make today, which is what a hiring dashboard is for.

It comes with candidates attached

An ATS on its own is a filing cabinet. It organises applicants you already found, which leaves the hard part untouched.

RefOpen's pipeline fills itself, because posting the role is free and on the same platform. Candidates browsing the market apply, and verified employees at your own company refer people into the role from a pool of 50,000+ professionals worldwide.

So you are not paying for software to manage a funnel you still have to buy traffic for. The tracking and the sourcing are the same free product.

Getting set up

Create an account, choose whether you hire for your own company or place candidates at client companies, and name the organisation. Publish a role, and its pipeline exists from that moment.

There is no implementation project, no demo, no card and no data migration to schedule. For bulk posting or an enterprise arrangement, partnerships@refopen.com is the address for it.

Frequently asked questions

Is RefOpen really a free applicant tracking system?

Yes. Pipeline stages, bulk actions, ratings, notes and an audit trail are all included at no cost, alongside free job posting. There is no seat licence, no per-applicant charge and no trial period that ends.

What is the catch with a free ATS?

There is no per-seat upsell waiting. The hiring side of RefOpen is free by design because the platform exists to make employee referrals work, and referrals only work if roles get posted. Email partnerships@refopen.com if you want bulk posting or an enterprise arrangement.

Does the free ATS limit how many jobs or candidates I can have?

There is no posting cap sold back to you as an upgrade, and no candidate limit that forces a plan change.

Can a whole hiring team use it?

Yes, and there is no per-seat charge. Moves are stamped with who made them and when, so a panel sharing one shortlist can see the history rather than arguing from memory.

Is it suitable for a small business or a startup?

It is aimed squarely at teams that cannot justify paid recruitment software. If you are tracking applicants in a spreadsheet today, this replaces that at no cost and adds free job posting on top.

Can a recruitment agency use it for client mandates?

Yes. Each role has its own pipeline, so separate client mandates stay separate, and there is no agency surcharge or per-consultant seat fee.

Does it help me find candidates or only track them?

Both. Posting the role is free on the same platform, so candidates apply directly, and verified employees can refer people into your roles from a pool of 50,000+ professionals. The tracking and the sourcing are one product.
